Harryman is one of the first races around these parts - it’s small race but tough the theme this year is hills and for an Olympic this race gives you one of the best bangs for your buck when it comes to hills -
This was also my first race last year - but last year I felt very different on race morning - this year not so much. I wasn’t even sure if I was going to be able to toe the start line after I had been battling the a stomach virus most of the week prior - the other major difference to last year was that this year I was on my own - for that matter it was the first time ever that I packed up the car and that it was just me heading to a race.Harryman has a very late start time of 10:30 - crazy a race you can actually sleep in for.
I got there with plenty of time and meet some of my Triton friends that were racing that day. For some reason I was extremely nervous before the start my friend Joanne stepped in and made me go for a swim to clear my head.
I’m not going to drag this out - there are two sides to this day the way I felt and the numbers on paper - I struggled through the day and never was quite “feeling” it never found that drive inside of me to push - the bike seemed hillier and harder than the year before and the run even worse - it was the slowest race I have done so far - paces all around not even matching my very first sprint I did - but all in all it was still enough to come home with 3rd female overall - so it seems that I’m not the only one that just thought it was a harder day.
I was happy the day was over and to be heading home - I had a blast with the girls and hope I can shake this off and refocus on what is just two weeks away Rev3 Quassy.....
